Weymouth ‘Go Spike’ League set to return
Th Weymouth ‘Go Spike’ League returns to the resort this week.
Organised by Weymouth Beach Volleyball Club, the league is designed for players of all standards from novice to expert and will take place on every Tuesday until August.
It will be a very poignant start to the league this year as the players will pay their respects to club secretary, Lyle Harmon-Beglan, who died suddenly in January, by holding a ‘one minute applause’.
Lyle was a founder of the league and for many years had been a very popular figure organising the teams and collating results. The evening will begin with a minute’s applause for Lyle.
The two-a-side league is designed so that players can take part for just one week or as many as they are able throughout the season.
Players need to need register each week on the beach between 6 and 6.30pm with play beginning at 6.30pm.
Entry costs £10 per team in the experienced player section and £5 per team in the beginner section.
The experienced section will see Ryan Stout and Sean Hendry try to retain their crown, while the pairing of Rob Semmence and Dom Cosserat will be looking to push them hard along with up-and-coming teams including Ian Denslow and Carl Neal.
