UNBEATEN RUN CONTINUES

Last Saturday saw Weymouth BVC make it 8 wins from 8 and take a commanding lead at the top of National League Division 3.

The Seasiders were on the road again on Saturday, travelling to Portsmouth, to take on Urbond VC and Dartford VC.

The first game of the day saw them up against Urbond. The only team to take a set off Weymouth, in the league, so far this season.

Given confidence by there strong performance again WessexBU the previous weekend, the away team got off to a good start winning the first set 25-20.

The second set was more of a challenge as Urbond looked more organised in defence and put together some solid attacks. This was not enough though as middle player, Ian Denslow, started to link up with setter Stout to make some solid, unreturnable spikes. A close finish ended with a closing score of 26-24.

Urbond seemed to fold under the pressure in the third and final set. Clever play and jump serving from the likes of Hendry and Baranovs was too much for the home team and Urbond crumbled to a 25-12 defeat.

This put Dartford up as the next challengers to take on unbeaten Weymouth who made some changes for this game. Libero -Sawyer – made a return and Denslow was surprisingly rested.

The first two sets of this game were very tight and it was hard to separate the two sides. Dartford showed impressive defensive skills to stay in long rallies,  forcing errors from Weymouth. The league leaders gave full commitment though and were not to be beaten. They came from behind in both sets to win 29-27, 27-25.

Like Urbond before them, Dartford did not fair well in the 3rd set and offered little in return to Weymouth’s attacking options. A good run of 8 serves without reply from Stout finished the match in style as the Seasiders took a 3-0 victory 25-9.
