BIGGEST TEST FOR WEYMOUTH!

this Saturday, National League new-comers Weymouth Beach Volleyball Club will face their toughest challenge to date as they come up against WessexBU, who currently sit 2nd in the Super League – 3 leagues higher than them (12pm, Redlands Sports Hub).

Former Wessex player, now player-coach of Weymouth, Ryan Stout is excited to come up against his old side and is relishing the challenge. “It will be a massive opportunity for our players to show what they can do on a Volleyball Court against a team with a huge amount of experience,” said Stout. “I know all the guys are up for it and will give the game their best shot. Let’s hope to replicate our upset in the previous round”.

This weekends game follows another successful round of games in the league, which saw them play against Wiltshire Worriers and South Hants VC.

First up, the Seasiders had to face Wiltshire Worriers. Looking at the league, this should have been a straight forward victory for Weymouth. The first set of this match did not pan out that way though. The away side struggled to get going and could only manage to trade points against the bottom of the table side. It took until the closing stages of the set (20-20) before Weymouth got themselves going and started to pull away. They finally took the set 25-22.

Between sets, Coach Jeanes had some serious words with the team and they came out a much more determined side for the second and third sets. They started to play the Volleyball they were capable of and debutant Valdis Barasovs showed his class, hitting from all areas of the court. Weymouth quickly got on top and the warriors were unable to keep up as Weymouth ran away with these two sets 25-13, 25-15. Ian Denslow finishing the game with a hard middle hit into the corner.

Next up, the side played South Hants. Weymouth were not going to make the same mistake they made in the previous match and came out playing hard from the start. They really showed their capabilities in this game playing consistently throughout. The team took the first set comfortably 25-15.

In the second set, The Seasiders continued to show their dominance. South Hants tried to put the top of the table side off their stride, with one of their players picking up a red card. This did not have an impact though and Weymouth went on to win the second and third set 25-13 25-8 respectively.

Two more 3-0 victories see Weymouth go 8 games unbeaten, 6 in the league. Can they dare the dream to make it 9 from 9 against Wessex on Saturday?
