BATRANE RETAINS MENS CROWN

Despite appalling weather for the final day of The Weymouth Beach Classic the players battled to give the crowds two dramatic finals.

The womens event saw Melissa Coutts and Lynn beattie the Scottish Commonwealth games pair pull of  a dramatic 2 sets to 1 win (17-21, 21-18, 15-12) win over former champion and fellow Scot Shauna Miedzybrodzki and her partner  Alex Vajdova .

In the Mens Final some amazing volleyball saw Issan Batrane playing with English Commonwealth games player Chris Gregory  defeat the youngest ever weymouth finalists 18 year-old Javier Bello and his Hungarian partner Artur Hajos 21-18, 21-17.

The start of Sunday had to be delayed for two hours due to the very strong winds and rain. Event Co-Director Graeme Sawyer said ‘ Conditions on the beach at 9 am were horrendous but by 11 the rain had eased and the players were keen to get started and they then provided us with some great play in very trying conditions’
