WEYMOUTH BEACH VOLLLEYBALL CLUB LEAGUE

ORGANISATION FOR 2008

INTRODUCTION

Weymouth Beach Volleyball Club was originally set up to run the Weymouth Beach Volleyball Classic. The same organisation team now also run the Weymouth Beach Volleyball League. Weymouth beach Volleyball Club is run by its two directors Graeme Sawyer and Pete Bennett.

The Club will run 3 events every Tuesday night, from Tuesday 13th May until 30th July 2008, these will be;

  • A Series 2 a- side
  • B series 2 a- side
  • 4 a side

The club are a registered club with Volleyball England and are supported by Weymouth and Portland Borough Council. The events have public liability insurance.

Tuesday 13th May will be a warm up week with no points being scored, entry fee paid or prize money paid out.

ENTRY FEE

The entry fee each week will be £6 per team for 2 a side and £ 8 per team for 4 a side.

In each series half the entry fee will be given in prize money at the end of the evening. This will be given to the winners and runners up. Precisely how this is divided up will be at the discression of the organisers depending on size of entry.

The rest of the entry fee goes into the accounts of Weymouth Beach Volleyball club and is used for promoting all Beach Volleyball in Weymouth.

MEMBERSHIP

All players who compete in the Series will fill in a registration form with Weymouth Beach Volleyball Club.

PLAYER REGISTRATION

Players need to report on the beach between 6-6.30pm on  Tuesday evening. The courts will be located near the trampolines near the Pavilion.

The Club have permission for one car to be on the Esplanade to help organisation. No other cars should be parked on the Esplanade at any time.

Players can enter as many weeks as they like, although obviously the more weeks they compete the better chance they have of a higher ranking.

LEVELS OF ENTRY

Teams can start in any series they choose but:

  • A series is designed for experienced Beach players who are aiming to improve their standard of play. They may be planning to enter the VEBT British series and/or qualifying for the Weymouth Beach Classic run by Weymouth Beach Volleyball Club from 24th-26th July 2008.
  • B series is for players new to the 2 a side game or are looking for a more social level of volleyball.
  • 4 a side is for beginners or players wanting a sporting social evening.

Once teams have played more than one event in the league there will be certain rules about what series they can compete in these are:

  • Any team playing in series A who has scored ranking points cannot then compete in Series B ( except in exceptional circumstances) Any individual who has scored points must seek exceptional dispensenation to compete in Series B.
  • If a team wins Series B they are then expected to compete in Series A the following week. After that week they may return to Series B if they wish.
  • When a team has won the 4-a –side they will then have a 4 point handicap ( on a 21 point set)  the following week. If they win that week as well they will have an 8 point handicap and so on. On losing their handicap will return to 0.

MATCH ORGANISTAION

Each Tuesday at 6.30pm, after entry has closed a format will be devised which gives as much playing time as possible but allows enough time for the final to be completed before dusk. This format is the responsibility solely of the organisers. The organisers will take into account number of teams, time of dusk and weather conditions.

RANKINGS

During the 10 week season players will score points in the 2 a side competition towards gaining a Weymouth beach Ranking and becoming Weymouth Beach King or Queen of the Beach for 2008. The points will be allocated as follows:

  • Players that win the A series will score same the number of A points as number of teams competing on that night. (i.e 8 teams compete 8 points scored. 12 teams competing 12 points scored)
  • Runners Up will score half the points of total teams competing.
  • Losing semi finalists will score a quarter the total teams competing (assuming a minimum of 6 teams compete)
  • Teams in the B series will score points in the same way.
  • A points always out rank B points. ( i.e a player with 1 A point out ranks a player with 42 B points)
  • All points are attached to each player not per team.

All points scores results and rankings will appear on the website www.weymouthbeachvolleyball.co.uk

WEYMOUTH BEACH VOLLEYBALL CLASSIC

  • Weymouth Beach Volleyball Club will give the top Weymouth player after 22nd July the opportunity to have a wildcard into the main draw at the Classic. This player may partner a player of his choice but to get the wildcard they must be a regular player in the Weymouth league.
  • Weymouth Beach Volleyball club can give 5 further teams (who have not qualified through the VEBT) entry into the Weymouth Beach Classic. These will be at the absolute discretion of the Directors of the Classic but they will expect the players to have competed in the Weymouth League.
  • All teams entering the Classic (including teams mentioned above) must have entered using the Volleyball England website by Monday 7th July.
