Weymouth Beach Volleyball Classic 2008

The 26th Weymouth Beach Volleyball Classic this year will take place from Friday July 25th to Sunday July 27th.

The event is regarded as the most prestigious Beach Volleyball event in Great Britain and is one of the Grand slam events on The Volleyball England Beach Tour. Last year the finals were watched by over 1000 people in a specially built Centre Court. In total, over the weekend, it is estimated that at least 75,000 people will watch some of the event. The Classic last year was covered by Sky Sports TV and was shown in 3, 1 hour programmes in October.

In all the Classic is played over 11 courts on Weymouth’s main beach within 100 metres of hotels, bars, and restaurants. In total over 100, 2-a-side teams can compete in the mens and womens events.

The Tournament is run in a format that allows all teams to start out in the main competition however, teams which are knocked out early can then compete in a lower level competition. Last year the majority of teams competing were from Great Britain but teams also came from Switzerland, Germany, USA, Australia, France, Czech Republic and Poland.

The event does have a limit to the size of the entry, in the event of this being exceeded entry will be decided on position on the VEBT tour, international record and previous Weymouth record.

The event is fully supported by Weymouth and Portland Borough Council

Method of entry is currently being discussed between Weymouth and the VEBT. This will be finally decided at a meeting on Sunday April 27th, after that date information on how to enter will be posted on this site.
